How to order your glass

Please watch our video of how to measure at the bottom of this page;

First of all you need to measure your existing sealed units (or the frame if it is a new installation). Some people measure the external edge of the beading and take off 10mm. This is possible but you also need to measure the depth of the sealed unit which is a bit harder to do! To be sure, remove the existing sealed unit, measure it, and pop it back into place until the new replacement sealed unit arrives.

Please provide your dimensions in the following format; WIDTH x HEIGHT x DEPTH

You also need to decide on the type of glass. We will quote as default standard rating 4mm clear glass, silver spacer and 4mm clear glass. You can request various options including TOUGHENED glass (used for patios, doors, french doors anything below 800mm from the floor etc) and/or OBSCURE glass. Please see the page 'obscure glass' for all the Pilkington/Guardian obscure glass pattern options.

You also have the choice of energy rating. Part L building regulations will require newly installed windows to be          A-rated or above. HOWEVER, when replacing just sealed units this is not the case. For example you could have A-rated sealed units but if the windows are poorly fitted or do not close properly you will not achieve A-rated performance! Therefore you have free choice from the ratings available.

As a guide here are the U-values of 24mm sealed units in three common ratings we offer;

Clear/Clear                                 u-value = 2.6

Clear/Clear Low E                       u-value = 1.2 (22mm depth and above -  'C-rated')

Clear Low Iron/ Clear Low E       u-value = 1.1 (22mm depth and above - 'A-rated')

You have a choice of colour and type of spacer bar for your sealed units. The spacer bar is visible inside and around the edge the sealed unit. Most of the time it is a silver finish, but we also offer the following colours; black, gold, bronze, white and grey.

We also offer 'warm edge' spacers. These offer higher thermal efficiency as they are plastic rather than aluminium. All our 'A-rated' sealed units have warm edge spacers as standard. The warm edge colour options are black, white or grey.

Finally you also can choose from  a range of lead patterns or georgian bar design (please see special requests page). If this is to match existing please email us a picture of the existing design and provide the measurements in millimetres of the design. For example - 6mm or 9mm lead width in 150mm x 200mm rectangle pattern - use the LEAD DESIGN GUIDE below. Or for Georgian bar please tell us the distance to the centre of the bar from the top of the glass edge.

We will then endeavour to return a quote to you the same day!
